- Well, I had stopped following Amiga news lately, so it came as quite a
- surprise to learn that Amigas are once again shipping in the U.S.!
-
- In fact, there is an Amiga dealership in Scottsdale, AZ, which has two
- A4000T's sitting on a table on display. Unbelievable fortune, that. As luck
- would have it, the 4000's are being made here in the U.S., in Pennsylvania,
- and being shipped primarily to customers here in the States.
-
- I'm so encouraged by this that I am considering buying a new Amiga -- this,
- after selling my trusty A3000 and buying a (shudder) Pentium machine to run
- OS/2.
-
- I've heard some weird stuff, tho, maybe someone can help me out. Is it true
- that Fred Fish will no longer be producing Fresh Fish CD's? (My Fresh Fish
- subscription lapsed a long time ago.) I ordered the Eric Schwartz CD from
- Amiga Library Services, to discover that they now go by the name of Cronus,
- and are carrying a lot of non-Amiga stuff. (No flames here, they need to
- diversify to stay in business.) I'm just wondering if they're still going to
- produce ANY new Amiga collections.
-
- Also, although there is a seemingly thriving Amiga dealership in the Phoenix
- metro area, it seems to be the ONLY one available. Another just closed, as I
- understand it. I wonder if SoftWood, which is headquartered here in the
- Phoenix area, is going to stay in business producing Amiga software.
-
- At any rate, the A4000T looks like a solid machine. But when are the PowerPC
- (or RISC, at any rate) Amigas going to ship? I mean, how close is Escom to
- completing design and delivery? Will they truly be running AmigaDos, or will
- they be Amigas in name only?
-
- Also, what ever happened to the AAA chipset that seemed so promising many
- months ago?
